2014 Welfare Food Challenge

Last update on Oct. 15, 2014.

Starting this Thusrday I am taking the 2014 Welfare Food Challenge. This challenge only allows me $21 to spend on food for one week. It runs from Thursday October 16th to Wednesday October 22nd. I have been trying to figure out what I'm going to spend that money on and it's been hard. Really really hard. I'm always on the look out for good deals when I'm at the store so I looked through my receipts trying to choose the necessities I'd need and nothing worked. All the food I buy on ...

New Northwest Coast Aboriginal Formline Designs

Last update on March 30, 2014.

I have been working on all these designs for a long time now and finally finished them just in time for this years Animal Advocacy Camp here in Vancouver.

My first design is one I have been working on since the documentary Blackfish came out in theatres. In this picture you can see a sketch of the design before I scanned it to my computer.

The orca is a symbol of kindness, intelligence, and compassion. The way we treat these beautiful creatures is no where near compassionate, intelligent, or kind. After watching the documentary Blackfish I felt ...

Leafleting with Mercy for Animals Canada

Last update on Dec. 17, 2013.

Had a great time leafleting for Mercy for Animals Canada. Handed out tons of leaflets and had tons of fun doing it. Leafleting is one of my favourite forms of outreach/activism because its so easy. I love witnessing people having that "ah ha moment" when then find out where their food is coming from and all the benefits of a plant based diet. It's really great.

If you would like to join in the merriment here are the up coming dates for leafleting

Wednesday December 18  5pm - 7pm   Robson Street, Vancouver

Orange Shirt Day Update

Last update on Sept. 8, 2016.

Orange Shirt Day was a great success! Kristin and I raised $365 for www.ReconciliationCanada.ca! Yippe! I'm in such good spirits that I'm going to pitch in the extra cash to make it an even $400.

It feels really amazing to be able to raise that kind of money and awareness for a cause I believe in. Thank you so much to everyone that purchased a shirt and is raising an awareness about Orange Shirt Day. Thank you to Phyllis Webstad for sharing her story and creating Orange Shirt Day.

To the left is ...

Idle No More - October 7th

Last update on Oct. 9, 2013.

Yesterday was The 250-year Anniversary of the Royal Proclamation of 1763; a perfect time for Idle No More to continue to shed light on former and present day issues. Hundreds of people gathered at the Art Gallery in downtown Vancouver to listen to speakers voice their concerns. I was very proud when I saw my Uncle Eddie Gardner take the mic and talk about the salmon fish farms in our BC waters and encourage everyone to join him in Duncan to protest. We are of Sto:lo ancestry which means we are children of the salmon and ...

Orange Shirt Day - September 30th

Last update on Sept. 8, 2016.

Orange Shirt Day is September 30th. This year I designed an orange shirt to honour the children who survived Indian Residential Schools - and to remember those who didn't make it home. During National Reconciliation week this year, I heard the story behind Orange Shirt Day as told by a Residential School survivor, Phyllis (Jack) Webstad (her story, below).

With Phyllis' blessing, we purchased, screened and will sell these story-telling shirts this year... and $5 from every shirt will be donated to www.ReconciliationCanada.ca to continue the work they do to support IRS survivors and their ...

This past Thursday and Friday I had a table at the event Artist in the Atrium. It is a fantastic event that has live music and aboriginal dancers and tables for aboriginal artist to sell their art.
