This past Thursday and Friday I had a table at the event Artist in the Atrium. It is a fantastic event that has live music and aboriginal dancers and tables for aboriginal artist to sell their art. Artists in the Atrium runs Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Thursday (August 1), and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for September and October, at the Woodward’s Atrium.

Harvesting Cedar

Last update on July 1, 2013.

Harvesting Cedar

Today I was taught how to harvest cedar for weaving. I am so incredibly happy to be learning how to weave cedar which is a traditional art form of my Sto:lo ancestry. I spent the day hiking through the lush green forest hugging cedars to see if they're old enough for harvest and giving thanks for the harvest. It was hard work but incredibly rewarding. I felt so at peace while I worked, taking in the sights and sounds around me. I am so grateful to be learning weaving in a hands on traditional style.

First we figured out what side of my block would be the bottom based on the grain of the wood, then using my planer blade I levelled it out so that it sat flat and flush with the table ...

NEC Awards Gala 2013

Last night I attended the Native Education Colleges(NEC) Gala and was a representative for the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts Progarm(NCJA). I was happy to come and demonstrate my craft and I love meeting people and sharing my passion. After an hour of showcasing the NCJA Program it was on to the main event in the beautiful NEC entrance and lobby. The welcoming song by Jeff Dan, Musqueam Nation set the stage for the rest of the evening. It was heart warming to hear about all the award recipients and their stories. I really connected to a lot of ...

Mothers Day

Mothers Day

My mother is an inspiration to me, and I really look up to her. She is so artistic and creative, growing up she always encouraged me to be creative as well. Whether it was helping me with school projects or teaching me how to sew she was always happy to help and give guidance. It's from this creative nest my mother nurtured me in, that I grew a love for the arts. I am so thankful for my momma bear and everything she has done for me and continues to do.

I have been working on this Charm Bracelet ...
