2014 Welfare Food Challenge

Last update on Oct. 15, 2014.

Starting this Thusrday I am taking the 2014 Welfare Food Challenge. This challenge only allows me $21 to spend on food for one week. It runs from Thursday October 16th to Wednesday October 22nd. I have been trying to figure out what I'm going to spend that money on and it's been hard. Really really hard. I'm always on the look out for good deals when I'm at the store so I looked through my receipts trying to choose the necessities I'd need and nothing worked. All the food I buy on ...

Leafleting with Mercy for Animals Canada

Last update on Dec. 17, 2013.

Had a great time leafleting for Mercy for Animals Canada. Handed out tons of leaflets and had tons of fun doing it. Leafleting is one of my favourite forms of outreach/activism because its so easy. I love witnessing people having that "ah ha moment" when then find out where their food is coming from and all the benefits of a plant based diet. It's really great.

If you would like to join in the merriment here are the up coming dates for leafleting

Idle No More - October 7th

Last update on Oct. 9, 2013.

Yesterday was The 250-year Anniversary of the Royal Proclamation of 1763; a perfect time for Idle No More to continue to shed light on former and present day issues. Hundreds of people gathered at the Art Gallery in downtown Vancouver to listen to speakers voice their concerns. I was very proud when I saw my Uncle Eddie Gardner take the mic and talk about the salmon fish farms in our BC waters and encourage everyone to join him in Duncan to protest. We are of Sto:lo ancestry which means we are children of the salmon and ...

Screen Printing T-Shirts

Last update on Aug. 18, 2013.

I have always loved learning how things are made and screen printing is one of those things I've been wanting to learn for a while now. I did my research on youtube and some library books and jumped in. Now I'm hooked on screen printing. I love the idea of putting messages on tees and walking around with a great message. Think about how many ads people see in one day and how much of it is garbage, now think about wearing a message as an ad that does some real good. That's how I ...

Learning to Carve Red Cedar

Last update on June 16, 2013.

Learning to Carve Red Cedar

Yesterday I attended a wood carving class with my classmate from NEC, Frank Wilson at the church on Penticton and Franklin Street. I received a block of red cedar to carve and instruction on how to get started from Rupert and Alfred Scowe. There were also tools there for me to use until my tools are sharpened and ready to use. First we figured out what side of my block would be the bottom based on the grain of the wood, then using my planer blade I levelled it out so that it sat flat and flush with the table ...

NEC Awards Gala 2013

Last night I attended the Native Education Colleges(NEC) Gala and was a representative for the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts Progarm(NCJA). I was happy to come and demonstrate my craft and I love meeting people and sharing my passion. After an hour of showcasing the NCJA Program it was on to the main event in the beautiful NEC entrance and lobby. The welcoming song by Jeff Dan, Musqueam Nation set the stage for the rest of the evening. It was heart warming to hear about all the award recipients and their stories. I really connected to a lot of ...
